한적한 어촌의 겨울밤, 철길 건널목 허름한 가게 앞에서 젊은 여자가 신호음만 들려오는 수화기를 들고 있다. 그녀가 가자 가게안의 늙은 여자가 나와 전화를 떼내어 들어간다. 가게의 불이 꺼진다. 가게 주위에서 일어나는 늙은 여자의 일상. 한복집 재봉틀앞에서 일하는 젊은 여자의 일상. 퇴근길 젊은 여자는 가게앞을 지나가다 전화를 건다. 여전히 신호음만 들려 온다. 밤 늦은 기차가 지나가고 가게를 나온 늙은 여자가 전화를 떼내어 가게로 들어 간다. 가게불이 꺼진다. (It’s an isolated fishing village in winter. A woman lives alone in a store near the railroad. A younger woman has given up hope of receiving phone calls and is always the one to make calls. This is where the two lives intersect, when the younger woman uses the phone in the store. When she leaves, the older woman returns the phone to its place, as the fragrance of their unchanging lives mingles with the ocean breeze.)연출의도. 궁극적으로 사람들의 살아가는 이야기를 하고 싶었고, 인간이라는 다양한 군상 앞에 겸허하고 열린 가슴으로 그 앞에 서고자 했다. 이 작품에서 선택되어진 공간과 등장 인물들은 우리 주위에서 존재하는, 그저 존재함으로써 의미가 있는 우리들의 일부분이다. 그대로의 그들과 그 공간을 바라보고자 했다. (I have tried to understand diverse people with open mind and wanted to show ordinary people’s lives. The spaces and the characters in the film are parts of us that exist around us.
