한강고수부지, 사람들의 눈에 잘 띄지 않는 곳에 각자의 아픈 과거를 안고 도시 부랑자 생활을 하는 3명의 남자가 함께 살아가고 있다. 라반. 마도로스. 석치. 그들은 스스로 극복하기 힘든 과거의 아픔을 서로 위로하고 의지하면서 살아간다. 이 도시가 언제 붕괴될지 모른다는 강박관념에 콘크리트를 밟지 않고 이 도시를 떠나는 방법을 찾고 있는 라반, 지하철에서 껌을 팔면서도 항상 바다를 꿈꾸는 마도로스, 어릴적 부모의 학대로 지체아가 된 순수한 석치. 이들 앞에 시한부 인생을 살아가는 청아가 나타난다. 이들은 라반이 말한 바이칼을 생각하며 언젠가 그곳에서 살수 있을 거란 희망을 가지고 살아간다. (Three homeless men, each have their own traumas, live together in an isolated area of Han Riverside Park. They are Lavan, Matroos, and Seokchi. By building strong connections to each other, they comfort each other's pain. Lavan is looking for a way to escape the city without ever stepping on a concrete because he fears that the city will come to an end soon. Matroos dreams of going to the sea while he sells gums in the subway. Innocent Seokchi is disabled because of the abuse that he received from his parent as a child. One day Cheong-a joins them. They hope and dream of living in the Baikal someday.)연출의도. 현대화된 도시공간에 살면서 정착하지 못하고 부유하는 사람들의 모습을 그려낼 생각이었다. 도시라는 공간이 만들어 내는 소외와 공포, 그것에 상처입고 병들며 전염되어 가지만 정작 도시를 벗어나려고 할 때는 그 길을 찾지 못하는 사람들의 모습을 중심으로 한다. 이 영화에서 도시는 또 다른 모습을 가지고 있다. 풀 한 포기도 자라지 못하는 삭막한 황무지와 같은 곳. 하지만 마치 개미굴과 같은 이 도시생활에서 꿈마저 없으면 모두가 미쳐버리지 않을까 하는 생각에 인물들을 설정하였다. 도시를 살아가는 사람들은 원했던 원하지 않았던 이 공간에서 정신적 육체적 상처들을 가지고 있다. 그리고 그 상처들은 이 도시를 벗어날 때만이 치유될 수 있다고 생각할지도 모른다. 하지만 어느 누구도 여길 벗어나는 길을 가르쳐 주지 않았다. 바이칼은 이 도시를 살아가는 사람들의 각기 마음속의 순수함을 향한 그리움이 아닐까 한다. (I wanted to portray people who are not able to settle down in a modernized city space. A city creates isolation and fear that hurt and contaminate people. But when they about to leave the city, they can’t find the way out. In the film, the city is a barren place where even a grass can’t grow. The characters would have gone mad, if they hadn’t have a dream. Whether they want or not, city dwellers receive mental and physical scars from the city. That wound may be healed when they escape from the city. But nobody taught them how to get out.)
